Department of Clinical Psychology

Introduction

The Department of Clinical Psychology (DCP), UMT has a legacy of 10 years. It was founded in 2012 by Dr. Zahid Mehmood (Late) with the aim of introducing clinical psychology program of international standards in Pakistan, based on his extensive experience. Over the decade, the department has evolved and progressed exponentially, with well-known clinical psychology programs across country. DCP is currently offering 4 courses on undergraduate and postgraduate level; BS Clinical Psychology (4 years), MS Clinical Psychology (2 years), MS Counselling Psychology (2 years) and PhD Clinical Psychology (2 years).

Vision

Our vision is to ensure the application of clinical psychology (population and practice-based) and fundamental research, in order to support initiatives in the field. We would like to provide prospects for students to enhance their ethical and critical thinking skills in the practical, theoretical and methodological fields. We aim to enhance the openness, transparency and reproducibility of research activities along with translating and disseminating research results to clinicians and a broader audience. We, at DCP, believe in teaching evidence-based methods for psychological assessment, prevention and treatment, and encourage participation in national and international conferences, collaborative education and research activities.

Mission

Our mission is to promote scientific knowledge about the underlying mechanisms, prevention and treatment of mental disorders, and to develop clinical psychologists with high level of professionalism and expertise, who provide maximum benefit to the society. We shall continue to improve mental, behavioral, and physical health by promoting clinical practices based on the best available evidence. We shall identify interventions that can be effectively implemented in the community, developing guidelines for clinical practice and indigenous scales that are scientifically sound, clinically useful, and informative for psychologists, other health care professionals, training programs, policy makers, and the public.
